Brief historical notes |
|
|
In the year 915, Saracens, who had taken over in the year 882 from the Byzantines, abandoned Agropoli, and it returned back to the jurisdiction of the Bishops, up to the beginning of the XV Century. Since then, up to 1806, when the feudalism was abolished, the town passed through different vassals. Agropoli was particularly touched by the barbaric invasions of the XVI and XVII Century, that caused the diminution of its inhabitants to some hundred. In the XIX Century the town grew and extended beyond the medieval walls. |
